Edpuzzle and Quizlet: Interactive Methods for Teaching and Learning Online

By: Joanne Dalton

While developing the online version of NU 630 (Advanced Nursing Research), the designer introduced and encouraged me to use 2 new interactive methods for teaching the content of the course : Ed Puzzle (https://edpuzzle.com/) and Quizlet (https://quizlet.com/ . I found them to be both fun and easy to use and the students gave positive feedback as well. The 2 learning methods emanate from my philosophy that every student learns differently, and a variety of online teaching/learning methods enhances an interactive learning environment.

Advanced Nursing Research includes several teaching/learning methods such as readings, PowerPoints, discussions, quizzes, and screen and lecture captures. Edpuzzle and Quizlet were made optional so that the student could select the best method of learning for themselves.

I used Edpuzzle to enhance selected Youtube videos by adding questions that were specific to the content of Advanced Nursing Research. The following is an example of how I used Ed Puzzle to enhance understanding of the concepts of Problem Statements and Research Questions. If you click on the image you can view and interact with the actual video.

The Advanced Nursing Research course includes many new terms such as Paradigm, Naturalistic Paradigm, Positivism, Basic Research, Qualitative and Quantitative Methods. Quizlet allows the development of games and studying with flashcards. I developed flash cards to assist the learning of the many new terms in the course that the student may not be familiar. Quizlet Flash cards were developed for every week. The following is an example of definitions of terms used in level of measurement. If you click on the image you can view and interact with the actual flashcards.

I hope you will try these two interactive teaching and learning methods. I believe they will enhance your course and help create an interactive environment.
