A Tool for Evaluating and Reflecting on Your Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Classroom Practices

Updated: Jan 17, 2023

As part of Goal 3 (“Review Courses and Curriculum”) in Regis’s Institutional Action Plan to Address Racism, all faculty are being asked to stop and think seriously about their teaching practices, the content of their courses, and the history of their disciplines. And then after the serious thought, you are being asked to make changes to your courses. The rubric below will help with the thinking and the changes.

The incorporation of content, assignments, assessments, and practices reflective of a DEI mindset is not something that happens overnight or at the same rate for each course that you teach. Small changes (ensuring that a stock image you use features diverse people) might be accomplished more easily than big changes (researching the history of your discipline and integrating that material within a course that is already content-heavy). But all of the changes matter, and they will improve the learning experiences for your students.

And, finally, please know that as you think about and then make these changes to your courses, the Center for Inclusive Excellence staff and the Instructional Designers are there to help you!
